  • Green Pea & Broadbean Soup
    First had pea soup with pinenuts on a friend's hen weekend in Dorset after a midnight dip in the Atlantic! The swim was bracing, the hot soup afterwards very consoling.
  • Noodle and Beansprout Soup
    This is a very simple version of a chinese-style noodle and vegetable broth.
  • Spicy Lentil Soup
    You can go *really* hot and sour if you up the garam masala and the lemon juice, and grind in plenty of black pepper.
  • Tofu and Red Pepper Soup
    A rich, spicy noodle broth with blackened, juicy stir-fried peppers and tofu.

  • Best Summer Shake

    This is incredibly simple, and makes the best milkshake ever. Actually I never much liked milkshakes, cuz I didn't like milk. But this is great. You can't taste the soya milk, either.
    Vegetarians and omnivores of my aquaintance are equally keen on this drink.
  • fresh muesli
    This is the best thing to have for breakfast in the summer when there's loads of beautiful fresh fruit around.

    I don't pretend to be an expert on these matters, but I should imagine it's ridiculously healthy too.

  • Fruit Flapjacks
    If you're the strict sort, substitute extra syrup for the honey.
  • Pink Party
    I have fond-ish memories of a party many years ago where we made up a tubful of this in one of those square plastic storage boxes, a bright pink one. We stood it on a stand with a light bulb underneath so it emanated an eerie glow throughout the night.
    It was highly swiggable.
  • Strawberry Vodka
    If you've got anything pressing to do the next day, then a ratio of three parts juice to one part vodka is also good.
